Challenging Fixtures Build Resilience for Lions 2
Norwich Lions 2 have faced a tough run of fixtures since their opening matches, coming up against some strong opponents in the run towards christmas. While the results haven’t always gone their way, the team has shown grit and determination, laying the groundwork for future success.
Norwich Eagles 1 (75 - 56)
The Lions 2 faced local rivals Norwich Eagles 1 in mid-October, in what turned out to be a fiery and hard-fought contest. The Lions came out with plenty of energy, matching the Eagles for much of the first half. However, the Eagles found their rhythm in the second half, taking control of the game with strong inside play and clinical shooting. Despite the loss, Lions 2 showed moments of promise and continued to battle hard until the final buzzer.
Norfolk Hoopstars 1 (80 - 49)
The next test came in November against Norfolk Hoopstars 1. This was another challenging away fixture, with the Hoopstars starting strong and setting the tone early on. Lions 2 struggled to keep up with the Hoopstars’ pace and accuracy, ultimately falling to a heavy defeat. The game was a reminder of the importance of defensive intensity and limiting turnovers, but there were encouraging signs in their teamwork and ball movement at times.

UEA Panthers 2 (41 - 61)
In December, Lions 2 hosted UEA Panthers 2 in what was always going to be a tough match. The Panthers brought their trademark physicality and defensive discipline, making it difficult for Lions 2 to establish their offensive rhythm. The Lions had a difficult time in the first three quarters, struggling to find their flow against the Panthers’ aggressive defence. However, they rallied in the fourth quarter, putting together their strongest stretch of the game and showing glimpses of their potential. While it wasn’t enough to close the gap, it was an encouraging finish that highlighted the team’s ability to bounce back under pressure.
Norwich Lions 1 (97 - 51)
Just before Christmas, Lions 2 found themselves up against their clubmates, Norwich Lions 1, in an intra-club showdown. The Lions 1 side, stacked with experience and talent, proved to be too much for Lions 2, who struggled to cope with their opponents’ speed and efficiency. Despite the one-sided scoreline, Lions 2 continued to play hard, gaining valuable experience from facing one of the league’s strongest teams.

Looking Ahead
Currently sitting at 1-5 and bottom of the table, Norwich Lions 2 face a critical second half of the season. With relegation to Division 2 looming as a possibility, finding wins will be key to securing their place in Division 1. The team will need to focus on improving their consistency, particularly in the early stages of games, and converting moments of potential into sustained performances. With their backs against the wall, the Lions 2 have a golden opportunity to rally together and show their mettle in the games to come.
